Ben Breen
Ben Breen is an Australian violinist noted for a warm, vibrant tone and a special affinity with Brahms. He made his Carnegie Hall recital debut at Weill Recital Hall in 1993 and has toured extensively in Australia, the United States, Europe and Japan.
For Tall Poppies he recorded the three Brahms violin sonatas in readings praised for rhythmic precision and autumnal warmth of sound.
A second disc turns to the salon encores that once filled the early gramophone catalogues—showpieces and arrangements that display personality and virtuosity after a full recital. On Brahms Violin Sonatas (TP172) the complete sonatas are the focus; Cafe Fiddle (TP189) gathers Kreisler favourites and kindred pieces, played with charm and cantabile elegance on a borrowed 1715 Guarneri.

Cafe Fiddle
After the success of his Tall Poppies Brahms sonatas with Milton Kaye, Australian violinist Ben Breen reunited with the veteran pianist for a second disc. Recorded near the end of Kaye’s life, it became the last chapter in the accompanist’s long recording career.

Brahms Violin Sonatas
Tall Poppies is proud to release this fine recording by talented young Australian violinist Ben Breen, then living in New York as a musician and sommelier. Breen has a special affinity with the Brahms sonatas, and here teams with veteran American pianist Milton Kaye.
