TALL POPPIES RECORDS New and classical music by Australian composers and performers

Carmen Warrington

Carmen Warrington is an Australian vocalist, vocussionist and songwriter whose work brings spoken word, lead voice and meditative colour to contemporary jazz.

She is best known on record with the Sydney jazz ensemble AtmaSphere, where her vocussion, lead and solo vocals sit inside complex polyrhythms, ambient textures and a quietly contemplative strain of the music.

On Tall Poppies she appears on Flying (TP038), contributing voice across the set and co-writing pieces such as Unisons Unique, Ascending and Music at the Speed of Breath—tracks that lean toward tranquil, slightly hypnotic spoken and sung colour within the group’s virtuosic, wide-ranging sound.

Flying

AtmaSphere is a Sydney jazz band specialising in virtuosic performances of its own works. Some tracks carry a Zen calm; others offer sheer pleasure from more notes per second than seem possible. Guest spots by Don Burrows and Mike Nock heighten the pleasure.
