Dave Samuels
On vibraphone and marimba, Dave Samuels brings jazz-honed colour to concert percussion, pairing Australian scores and Cage with his own chamber writing in a full-throttle collaboration with Synergy.
Long associated with Spyro Gyra, he also formed the Caribbean Jazz Project and recorded as Double Image, a vibes and marimba duo; his live and studio work often takes in the steelpan as well. For the Synergy programme he wrote Reconstructions, Night Rain and Square Corners, played and produced beside Edwards, Westlake, Sculthorpe and Cage, with Westlake’s Malachite Glass adding bass clarinet to the percussion line-up.
