David Porcelijn
David Porcelijn brings precise colour and rhythmic bite to orchestral scores, heard here directing the Tasmanian Symphony Orchestra in Nigel Westlake's Antarctica suite for guitar and orchestra.
A Dutch conductor and composer whose baroque training shapes clean, alert readings of classical and contemporary scores. He has been a steady presence with Australian orchestras and opera companies, recording Australian composers including Sculthorpe, Meale, Westlake and Hindson, and leading a complete Beethoven symphony cycle with the Tasmanian Symphony Orchestra. With Timothy Kain he realises Westlake's Antarctica as vivid programme music that still moves with concerto-like focus: colours stay sharp, rhythms lock, and the ensemble changes direction on a pin.
