TALL POPPIES RECORDS New and classical music by Australian composers and performers

Linda Cable

London-born Linda Cable built her singing career in Australia, moving from blues into a distinctive jazz style. She is known for a strong, clear voice on up-tempo numbers, moody ballads and her own songs.

Her early set Ya-de-ya (MD 3061) places original songs between nightclub soul and contemporary jazz, carried by that polished, silver-clear delivery. Just For The Record (MD 3099) turns to standards and ballads—among them Misty, Body and Soul and Send in the Clowns—with her own Cats in the Kitchen in the mix, while the shorter Just A Dreamer (MCD 405) stays in a jazz-vocal vein.

As lead voice of Tabula Rasa she helped shape a clean-slate blend of classical, Celtic and jazz colours with Spanish and Brazilian threads on the ensemble’s debut Prism (MD 3274).

Flying

AtmaSphere is a Sydney jazz band specialising in virtuosic performances of its own works. Some tracks carry a Zen calm; others offer sheer pleasure from more notes per second than seem possible. Guest spots by Don Burrows and Mike Nock heighten the pleasure.
