Max Lambert
Max Lambert composes for Australian theatre and dance, from Icehouse-linked synthesiser scores to musicals and film. Berlin mixes big synthetic strings, piano improvisation and circus swagger; at the piano he steadies chamber dance music.
With Iva Davies he wrote Berlin for the Sydney Dance Company, music that sits between rock band and pit orchestra. He has also composed Miracle City and Darlinghurst Nights, co-written Hot Shoe Shuffle, and written for plays including Ladies Day and Letters to Lindy. As musical director he shaped the original Boy from Oz. Film work includes Happy Feet and The Last Days of Chez Nous. On disc he is the pianist in Graeme Koehne's Nearly Beloved, chamber pieces that lean toward musical-theatre waltz and elegy.
