Rita Hunter

Rita Hunter (1933–2001) was a British dramatic soprano celebrated for her Wagnerian roles. From 1981 she made her home in Sydney and sang with the Australian Opera.

A live London recital from 1977, later issued on Tall Poppies, shows her in a mixed programme of Verdi, Puccini, Mascagni and Mozart arias with lighter songs. Rita Hunter in Concert (TP021) preserves that evening with piano, and the singing has been praised for its emotional range and searching musical intelligence.
