Andrián Pertout
Andrián Pertout (b. 1963) is a Chilean-born Australian composer who settled in Melbourne in 1972. His rigorously structured music draws on wide cultural and mathematical resources and has been performed in more than forty countries.
In 2007 he completed a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) at the University of Melbourne on Tweddle Trust, Australian Postgraduate and Melbourne Research scholarships, studying composition under the guidance of Brenton Broadstock.
Composition awards include the Jean Bogan Prize, the ‘John Cage Centennial’ Wolf Museum of Music and Art Composition Prize (USA), the Friends & Enemies of New Music Composition Prize (USA), the Dorian Le Gallienne Composition Prize, the Betty Amsden Award, the Louisville Orchestra Prize (USA), an APRA Award for Orchestral Composition, and the Oare String Orchestra Judges’ and Audience Prize (UK). He is President of the Melbourne Composers’ League (MCL) and Australian Delegate of the Asian Composers’ League (ACL), and was Honorary Fellow at the Melbourne Conservatorium of Music, University of Melbourne (2007–2015).
A freelance composer, he also works as composition lecturer, teacher, supervisor and examiner at the University of Melbourne at Bachelor, Masters and PhD levels.
