Hazel Smith
Hazel Smith's words cut through processed sound and live electronics: spoken text that rides the edge of electroacoustic improvisation with austraLYSIS, turning poetry into a physical presence in the mix.
On Windows in Time she also appears as violinist and as composer of the brief, taut Simultaneity. Elsewhere her voice carries pieces such as The Blue Bus, threading Rosa Parks into Dean's textures of piano, saxophone and computer. With Roger Dean she shapes acousmatic programmes where short studies and longer soundscapes lean on her language as much as on the circuitry. The speaking is not decoration; it is part of the architecture, sharp, rhythmic and locked to the electronics around it.
Hazel Smith is featured on the following titles

Acouslytic

Windows in Time
austraLYSIS is the brainchild of Roger Dean, and exists in several incarnations, including a live electronics band. Here they are in their standard chamber music format and have chosen a programme in which the linchpins are Xenakis and the music of New Zealand composer Lyell Cresswell.
