Jason Noble
Jason Noble's clarinet threads through contemporary Australian chamber music, answering new vocal scores and living instrumental works with clear colour, agile line and a chamber player's quick ear for blend and text.
On Halcyon's Kingfisher commissions he sits among flute, cello and percussion as twenty-one short pieces turn on friendship, calm seas and bright birdsong, the woodwind multi-instrument colour folding around two voices in music that can be rhapsodic, reflective or sharply etched. In Andrew Schultz's chamber songs the same clarinet helps carry word-painting, cross-rhythms and sudden shifts from tenderness to raw heat, part of a tight band built around the two singers. As clarinetist with Ensemble Offspring he belongs to a core of players who chase experimental, cross-artform programmes and the next Australian score, keeping the instrument alert inside music that refuses a single genre.

This Moment Must Be Sung: Chamber Songs of Andrew Schultz
A special recording of chamber vocal music by Australian composer Andrew Schultz. Halcyon—Alison Morgan and Jenny Duck-Chong with a fine instrumental ensemble—has championed his writing for one and two voices across two decades.

Kingfisher
This CD is the result of a daring project to commission 21 composers to write new works for Halcyon's two singers, Jenny Duck-Chong and Alison Morgan. Presented over two concerts in their 15th anniversary year, and then recorded at Trackdown.
