Josie Ryan
Josie Ryan is an Australian soprano specialising in early vocal music. After training in Sydney and at The Hague, and a decade performing in Europe, she returned to Sydney as a concert and ensemble soloist.
Her clear, flexible soprano is heard with Josie and the Emeralds, the Sydney group she fronts with the Emerald City Viols, in Renaissance consort song and new music for voice and viols. Their debut, The Emerald Leopard (TP233), pairs early English song with contemporary Australian writing for soprano and viols. The Emerald Phoenix (TP271) continues that partnership in scores that turn toward Australian histories and themes of hope after adversity.
