Tobias Cole

Tobias Cole (born 1971) is an Australian countertenor. A Churchill Fellow and University of Sydney graduate, he has been a leading artist with Opera Australia in Baroque and contemporary repertoire.

As a boy treble he sang with The Australian Opera and the Sydney Philharmonia Choirs, later training in London and at the Metropolitan Opera. Stage roles have included the title part in Giulio Cesare and Oberon in A Midsummer Night's Dream.

On Tall Poppies he is the countertenor with The Song Company on Mozart Unexpurgated (TP009), a programme of Mozart’s bawdy canons and household songs, and on The Green CD (TP064), Australian choral works concerned with nature and the environment.

The Green CD

In a climate of rising concern for the planet, this programme of Australian choral works turns on nature and protest. Wesley-Smith's Who Killed Cock Robin? stands as a landmark of Australian choral writing, and one of its most popular.

Mozart Unexpurgated

The Song Company sings Mozart’s scatological canons and songs, with fortepianist Geoffrey Lancaster improvising the accompaniments and taking two irreverent solo turns.
