Vanessa Sharman

Vanessa Sharman is a Tasmanian-born pianist and teacher who has lived and worked in Sydney while retaining close ties to her home state. She has a particular interest in contemporary music.

She studied in Australia with Eric Mitchell, Beryl Sedivka and Geoffrey Lancaster, and in Paris with Cécile Ousset and Yvonne Loriod.

Her debut recording, Bird Chants (TP210), presents piano works by the Tasmanian composer Don Kay written for particular pianists, including music shaped with her in mind. A second volume, Blue Sky Through Still Trees (TP268), continues that partnership with further sonatas and later works, recorded in the Salon at Melbourne Recital Centre.
