Werner Andreas Albert

Werner Andreas Albert (1935–2019) was a German-born Australian conductor. From 1981 he worked regularly in Australia as principal conductor of the Queensland Symphony Orchestra, an ABC conducting teacher, and an adjunct professor at the University of Queensland.

He conducted all six Symphony Australia orchestras and was Principal Guest Conductor of the Southern Sinfonia. On Tall Poppies he leads the Queensland Philharmonic Orchestra in Works for Viola and Orchestra (TP084), recorded in Brisbane in 1995.

Earlier posts included chief conductorships with the Nordwestdeutsche Philharmonie, the Gulbenkian Orchestra in Lisbon, and the Nuremberg Symphony. He made a vast body of recordings and was recognised by the German Federal and Bavarian State Governments for his service to music.
