Howard Penny had lived in Vienna for fifteen years, returning periodically to Australia. Here he plays a selection from the modern solo cello repertoire in performances of real conviction and focus.

Gerald Glynn

Australian composer Gerald Glynn's music has been performed in France, the UK, West Germany and Austria. Actively interested in the music of non-Western Cultures, over the past 15 years he has travelled extensively in Asia, Latin America and Africa, pursuing this interest.

Gaspar Cassadó

Gaspar Cassadó was a Spanish cellist and composer of the early 20th century. He was born in Barcelona to a church musician father and began taking cello lessons at age seven. The city of Barcelona awarded him a scholarship so that he could study with Casals in Paris.

Jacques Ibert

Ibert's scores favour clarity, colour and a light touch. His chamber miniatures, including the well-loved Entr'acte, bring French wit and classical poise to flute, harp, guitar and solo cello.
