Reviews
... a judiciously chosen programme of winningly uncerebral material, calculated to refresh even the most jaded ear ... an hour or so of totally agreeable entertainment, skilfully played and particularly well recorded.
... joyous, relaxed, and unfailingly mellifluous music in a classical manner ... a good CD for moments when you don't want music of even the slightest argument - but would never stoop to new-age drivel.
There is nothing routine about the quality of the playing or the recording, both of which are of the highest standard.
The sounds of the flute and guitar blend beautifully ... The recorded sound is crisp and clear, yet with a warmth which captures the expressiveness of the playing ... more than an hour of consistent musical enjoyment.

Composers

Claude Debussy
Claude Debussy (1862–1918) was a French composer whose harmony, colour and flexible sense of key reshaped European music at the turn of the twentieth century. Piano, orchestral and chamber works from his maturity remain central to the repertoire.

Gabriel Fauré
Gabriel Fauré (1845–1924) was a French composer, pianist, organist and teacher whose music links late Romanticism with early modernism. His best-known works include the Requiem, the Pavane, and a large body of songs and piano music.

Maurice Ravel
Many consider Maurice Ravel a major composer for the piano as well as a genius of orchestration. It remains a surprise how few works make up his total output for the instrument: all his piano compositions can be performed in under two and a half hours.

Joaquín Rodrigo
Joaquín Rodrigo gave the classical guitar its most enduring twentieth-century voice. His Concierto de Aranjuez, Fantasía para un gentilhombre and smaller Spanish works still define how the instrument sings with orchestra, flute or voice: clear lines, warm colour and an unmistakable Iberian lilt.
Mario Castelnuovo-Tedesco
Mario Castelnuovo-Tedesco composed almost one hundred works for the guitar and a wide range of chamber and concert music. His writing is often graceful and classically shaped, with a clear singing line and a taste for literary and Italian colour.
Napoléon Coste
Napoléon Coste's guitar music carries French Romantic drama and song: programmatic fantasies that send soldiers to war and bring them home in triumph, beside short romances and cantilènes of quiet, flowing melody.
Arthur Honegger
Arthur Honegger (1892–1955) was a Swiss composer, born in France and long based in Paris. A member of Les Six, he wrote oratorios, symphonies, film scores and chamber music, including the solo flute staple Danse de la chèvre.
Jacques Ibert
Ibert's scores favour clarity, colour and a light touch. His chamber miniatures, including the well-loved Entr'acte, bring French wit and classical poise to flute, harp, guitar and solo cello.
Jorge Morel
Jorge Morel wrote for the classical guitar with a blend of Latin American rhythm and jazz harmony. His Danza Brasiliera and other pieces have become part of the instrument's standard concert and chamber repertoire.
