David Pereira Cello Works
Tall Poppies is proud to present the first recording of David Pereira’s compositions for cello. Written over twenty years, these works show a clear understanding of the instrument and often a mischievous side rare in classical music today.
Responding to his surroundings in Canberra, his children and grandchildren, and to the art of fellow Canberra painter Micky Allen, David’s music takes us on surprising journeys.
It was marvellous that a sought-after teacher was promoting a gifted protégé (Lianah is extraordinary!) and Canberra pianist Teddy Neeman had been advising with the piano writing as well as performing these works.
The Bach suite arrangements are unusual, but make a terrific set of pieces for cello teachers to play with their students.
Many thanks to ANU for providing the Larry Sitsky Recital Room in which to record this music.
And many thanks to Kangaroo Valley-based artist Githe Pilbrow for her interpretation of Klimt’s Pear Tree for our cover.
