Little Ripper!

David Stanhope’s wind-band music was taking the band world by storm. His main influence is Grainger, yet as a horn and trombone player he brings a sharp ear for what truly works for band.

David Stanhope composer

The Elder Conservatorium Wind Ensemble is conducted by Robert Hower. The programme pairs the title piece The Little Ripper with three Folksongs for Band suites, the extended E.G.B.D.S., and the Concerto for Band.

The recording was made in 1995–96 at Elder Conservatorium Hall, University of Adelaide, in the presence of the composer.

None of these three Australian symphonies has ever been heard in public. Once you know them, their neglect is hard to explain. David Stanhope’s digital orchestra gives the scores a first hearing and makes their musical worth plain.
