TALL POPPIES RECORDS New and classical music by Australian composers and performers

Schumann: Lieder

Gerald English, then in his seventies, was still singing magnificently. Here he joins Perth-based pianist and composer Roger Smalley, whose work as an accompanist is little known. This is the first of several Tall Poppies projects featuring English.

Robert Schumann composer

Three major Schumann song cycles fill the programme: the Heine Liederkreis Op. 24, the Eichendorff Liederkreis Op. 39, and Dichterliebe Op. 48. The performances were recorded in March 1993 at Studio 200, ABC, Sydney.

Reviews

An exemplary recital. …Eager anticipation should be the state with which further releases are anticipated, such is this disc's high standard.
