Adam Pinto
Adam Pinto brings fierce rhythmic precision and a taste for extended sonority to contemporary piano music, from ring-modulated modernism to cross-genre chamber works shaped in Western Australia.
He is the pianist who puts Roger Smalley’s keyboard and live-electronics scores back into the air: Monody with its bell-like sonorities and funky riffs, the reconstructed Transformation glistening with overtones, and the spare Morceau de concours. On the Stuart & Sons piano he gives the first recording of Smalley’s Three Studies in Black and White and joins newly written solos that treat the instrument as a true collaborator. With Paul Tanner and Matt Styles he also drives Home by Eleven, Perth-made pieces that fold classical, Latin, African and jazz languages into one hard-edged chamber sound. The playing is meticulous, physical and hungry for colour.

Roger Smalley AM (1943–2015) shaped contemporary composition in Australia. This project grew from his dual gift as a virtuoso pianist and as a composer of visceral solo piano music.
