Jane Stanley
Jane Stanley is an Australian composer of contemporary chamber and solo piano music, writing spare, atmospheric scores that sit readily with voice and with the modern recital piano.
Her Round the Bay was written for the Halcyon singers and appears on Kingfisher (TP236), among twenty-one new short vocal chamber works. It draws on key words and phrases from a Judith Beveridge poem, setting a mezzo line against flute, cello and vibraphone in a slow-moving, reverberant texture that keeps a haunted calm even as the writing grows denser and more rhythmic.
Her four-part Piano Sonata, framed by a brief Prelude and Postlude that share pitch and rhythm while differing in tempo and dynamics, is recorded on The Sonata Project (TP251). The first main movement unfolds as a sequence of textural ideas; the second is bound together by rapid repeated notes, tremolos and other insistent figures.
Jane Stanley is featured on the following titles

The Sonata Project
Bernadette Harvey performs four large-scale solo piano works: Aristea Mellos’s three-movement Sonata, Melody Eötvös’s two-movement Piano Sonata No. 1, Jane Stanley’s Piano Sonata framed by Prelude and Postlude, and Ross Edwards’s Sea Star Fantasy.
Compositions by Jane Stanley also appear on

Kingfisher
This CD is the result of a daring project to commission 21 composers to write new works for Halcyon's two singers, Jenny Duck-Chong and Alison Morgan. Presented over two concerts in their 15th anniversary year, and then recorded at Trackdown.
