Tasmanian Symphony Orchestra
The Tasmanian Symphony Orchestra has an enviable reputation as one of the world's great small orchestras. With a full-time strength of 47 players, which can be augmented when the programme demands, it is known for classical polish and a lively commitment to new work.
Swedish conductor Ola Rudner was appointed Principal Conductor and Advisor in March 2001.
The orchestra presents over eighty concerts a year across its subscription and special series, education programme, and free outdoor events such as Symphony under the Stars. Its core repertoire is the classical period, which it plays with stylistic flair. It is also recognised for championing contemporary music: in recent seasons it has premiered many new Australian works and given first Australian performances of important European scores. Jazz and popular programmes have likewise been a strong suit, with artists including Don Burrows and his Quartet, Julian Lee, and Wendy Matthews.
Tasmanian Symphony Orchestra is featured on the following titles
