Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart
Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart was a prolific and influential composer of the Classical era. He wrote over 600 works, many of them pinnacles of symphonic, concertante, chamber, piano, operatic and choral music, and remains among the most enduringly popular of classical composers.
Born in Salzburg in 1756, he was a celebrated child performer and composer before settling in Vienna, where he wrote much of the music for which he is best known. Late works include the operas Le nozze di Figaro, Don Giovanni, Così fan tutte and Die Zauberflöte, the final symphonies, the Clarinet Concerto, and the unfinished Requiem.
His style joined clarity and grace with real depth of feeling. That balance has shaped Western art music ever since, and his catalogue still anchors concert, chamber and opera programmes around the world.
