Ocean Flows
Rik Rue clambered around Sydney’s seaside rockpools in the early morning to gather the material for this recording. Intimate, sometimes funny and spectacularly well captured, the sounds build an entire dramatic scenario from a complex web of sonorities.
Three extended soundscapes are shaped from coastal sea flows and motions. The recordings stay close to the water, turning rockpool detail and open tide into long-form drama.
These are experimental field recordings in which water, tide and rockpool life supply the entire sonic material.
Artist
Rik Rue
Rik Rue builds music from tape manipulation, analogue and digital samples, and close field recording. Rockpools and tidal motion become extended soundscapes; elsewhere his electronics lock into dense, interlocking textures with voice, winds and strings.
