Wish
Best known for her work with the medieval ensemble Sinfonye, Stevie Wishart is also a scintillating improviser. Here she gathers long-time collaborators for an unusual set of free improvisations and studio pieces.
Stevie Wishart violin, hurdy-gurdy, vocals
Shane Fahey acoustic treatments
Jim Denley bass flute, flute, flax, saxophone
Julian Knowles sampler, keyboards
These free improvisations and studio pieces centre on Wishart’s violin, hurdy-gurdy and voice, joined at times by tape manipulation, keyboards, flutes and saxophone.
Tracks 1–12 were recorded at Megaphon Studio in Sydney between April and November 1992. The long closing track was recorded at ABC Studio 227 in December 1992.
Reviews
…the energy of Stevie Wishart's music jumps right out of the stereo and snaps at your ankles. This collection of compositions and improvisations… is dynamic and compelling.…even if Wishart's work sometimes screams at you, demanding to be heard, this is ultimately welcoming music. It may drag you inside, but, once there, you are permitted to wander around the labyrinth of imaginative structures at will. Recommended.

Windows in Time
austraLYSIS is the brainchild of Roger Dean, and exists in several incarnations, including a live electronics band. Here they are in their standard chamber music format and have chosen a programme in which the linchpins are Xenakis and the music of New Zealand composer Lyell Cresswell.

Ocean Flows
Rik Rue clambered around Sydney’s seaside rockpools in the early morning to gather the material for this recording. Intimate, sometimes funny and spectacularly well captured, the sounds build an entire dramatic scenario from a complex web of sonorities.
