Schubert's Unfinished
Few pianists can complete Schubert’s unfinished piano works with real authority. Ian Munro brings compositional craft to the task, and plays with precision, clarity and insight. This is the first of two discs devoted to the repertoire.
The programme centres on two unfinished piano sonatas: the C major Reliquie and a reconstructed F sharp minor sonata assembled from related fragments, with Munro supplying completions where the manuscripts break off.
Shorter pieces in C major and C minor, including the Fantasy, D.605, complete the disc. The recording was made in July 1994 at Studio 200, ABC Sydney.
