Franz Schubert
Franz Schubert (1797–1828) was an Austrian composer of the late Classical and early Romantic eras. In only thirty-one years he left a vast body of work, including over six hundred Lieder, and remains among the most frequently performed composers.
His output runs from intimate Lieder and the great song cycles Die schöne Müllerin and Winterreise to chamber music such as the String Quintet in C major, piano Impromptus and late sonatas, liturgical works, and the celebrated Unfinished Symphony. Songs including Erlkönig, Ave Maria and Der Hirt auf dem Felsen still anchor recital programmes.
Recordings here return often to that core: a complete bilingual Winter Journey (MCD 594), the String Quintet with Der Hirt auf dem Felsen (TP011), unfinished piano sonatas, Impromptus, and salon settings for voice with clarinet or guitar.
Franz Schubert is featured on the following titles

The Inner Line: Music for Piano 4 Hands
Stephen Emmerson taught piano at the Queensland Conservatorium in Brisbane and Bernard Lanskey at the Guildhall School of Music in London, yet the two still met regularly to give piano four-hand concerts.

Works for Viola and Orchestra
Patricia Pollett's debut solo disc makes a strong case for the viola beyond the usual elegiac repertoire, pairing orchestrated Romantic sonatas with Bruch and a new Australian work.

Schubert's Unfinished
Few pianists can complete Schubert’s unfinished piano works with real authority. Ian Munro brings compositional craft to the task, and plays with precision, clarity and insight. This is the first of two discs devoted to the repertoire.

Piano Recital
In her sixties when this disc was made, Mary Warnecke had already been a force at the keyboard before marriage and children ended her performing career, as they so often did then. She returned with an intensely personal style.

Schubert
Schubert's best-loved chamber works: the great String Quintet in C and The Shepherd on the Rock, played by The Australia Ensemble with guest artists Jennifer Bates (soprano) and David Pereira (cello).
Compositions by Franz Schubert also appear on

Twenty-Five (DVD)
After a break from the Chopin Op. 10 études and Godowsky studies, David Stanhope returns to some of the most fiendish piano repertoire: the Godowsky Studies on Chopin's Études, Op. 25.

Amatorios
Soprano Rebecca MacCallion joins Guitar Trek’s Bradley Kunda in a programme for voice and guitar. The pair made their ensemble debut on ABC Classic FM’s Sunday Live and took their work to audiences in Australia, Spain, Montenegro and Italy.

Romantic Rarities
Ian Holtham is a distinguished Melbourne pianist with a long discography of Classical and Romantic repertoire, especially Chopin. On his first Tall Poppies release he turns to relatively rare works from the piano literature.

Virtuoso Transcriptions
These ‘one take’ studio recordings were made for ABC broadcast about a decade before release. That they stand as a finished album is a tribute to David Stanhope’s prodigious musicianship and technique.

For Children
Geoffrey Tozer plays piano music by Bach, Tchaikovsky, Mozart, Schubert, Prokofiev, Bartók and Schumann written especially for children.
