In the Pipeline
An improvising contemporary trio of trombone and two percussionists, Pipeline presents a major work from each composer–performer, linked by free studio improvisations.
Simone de Haan (trombone), Daryl Pratt (percussion) and Phil Treloar (percussion) recorded the album at the ABC in 1995.
Extended works by each player sit beside short free improvisations, with trombone set against two percussionists across the session.
Artists
Simone De Haan
Simone de Haan's trombone can turn from songful to abrasive in a breath, whether in Carl Vine's Love Song or her own collages with percussion. She writes and improvises as readily as she performs.
Daryl Pratt
Daryl Pratt's vibraphone and percussion cut through jazz fusion and contemporary chamber music with equal bite: MIDI-rich grooves, intricate mallet writing, and compositions that move from meditative shimmer to high-velocity interplay.
Phil Treloar
Phil Treloar's percussion lives where composition meets free play. On the Bruce Cale Quartet live sets his cymbals drive the heat and his accents keep the soloists honest; as composer-performer he builds long-form works that think in pure sound.
