Purple Black and Blues
Herself a pianist, Elena Kats-Chernin has built a substantial body of piano works. Expatriate Australian pianist Lisa Moore has long championed this music, and here gives vivid accounts of the major pieces, including Sonata Lost and Found, written for her and this recording.
The programme balances short rags with longer character pieces such as Schubert Blues and Variations in a Serious Black Dress.
The four-movement Sonata Lost and Found was composed for Moore and for this disc, anchoring a survey that ranges from playful ragtime to more expansive, reflective writing.
