Nineteen Australian composers each wrote an orchestral arrangement of a familiar carol for this Tall Poppies project. The programme was recorded in July 1992 at the Eugene Goossens Hall in Sydney, with Graham Abbott conducting the Australian Youth Orchestra.

Two carols appear in paired settings, so God Rest ye Merry, Gentlemen and Silent Night / Stille Nacht can be heard in contrasting hands.

Reviews

...for classical-music lovers really looking for something different ... This project of the Australian Youth Orchestra is already a legend, and they play it like it's repertoire material. A real seek-and-ye-shall-(hopefully)-find CD.

I'm giving this disc to everyone for Christmas.

The Australian Youth Orchestra plays with discipline and style under Graham Abbott's direction, and there is some fine solo playing. The recording... is of high quality.
