On Our Way: Haza is Kéne Már Menni
If you like Hungarian and Romanian folk music and dance, this is your CD. The Transylvaniacs play traditional Hungarian music from Transylvania, with Romanian and Gypsy tunes among the twelve tracks. Violin, cimbalom, viola, double bass and voice lead the ensemble’s own arrangements.
József Kajsca cimbalom, vocals
Craig Scott double bass
Béla Mészáros viola, flute, lute, zither, vocals
Sally Corry viola, violin
Mark Richards violin
András Rácz violin
Gemma Turner vocals, string drum
Antal Stopic vocals
Christine Stopic vocals
Csilla Tamás vocals
Jenny Dornan vocals
Dance tunes, ballads and recruiting songs sit side by side in the ensemble’s own arrangements. Gemma Turner’s vocals join the string band sound that made this 1994 Tall Poppies release a lively introduction to the Transylvanian folk repertoire.
Reviews
The Transylvaniacs offer up a heady batch of Romanian-Hungarian goulash, with plenty of lickety-split violins, zithers, and gipsy fervour. With vocals by Blindman's Holiday singer Gemma Turner, and with the obligatory member named Bela, The Transylvaniacs are a lively bunch, and not a vampire in sight. Sure to be a big hit on Bucharest and Budapest dance floors.
